# Your first campaign

> From an empty tenant to a broadcast that has rung somebody, end to end.

This walks the shortest complete path: a list of people, something to say to
them, and a call. It assumes you can sign in at `/login` as an organisation
admin.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Load some contacts">
    Go to **Customers → Contacts**. A contact needs a number in the form your
    carrier presents it, e.g. `+61400111222`.

    You do not have to add them by hand — a campaign can import a CSV, and that
    is the usual way. Skip to step 3 if you have a file.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Group them, if you want to reuse the list">
    **Customers → Segments** holds named groups you can point a campaign at.
    Fill one from the contacts screen: filter to the people you want, then
    **Add to segment**.

    The dialog tells you how many contacts it is about to add before you press
    the button, because the whole risk of a filter-shaped action is adding
    people you did not realise were in view.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the broadcast">
    **Outbound → Voice Broadcasting → New broadcast**. Four steps:

    1. **Voice** — a recording, or write the message and have it read out.
    2. **List** — a segment, or upload a CSV.
    3. **Channels** — how many calls run at once.
    4. **Start** — now or at a set time, and the hours it may dial in.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the list before you launch">
    From the campaign's row, open **Contacts**. This is your own file's columns
    in your own order — not a phone book — so "is this the right list" is
    answerable before anybody is rung.

    Anyone marked do-not-call appears as **suppressed**. They stay on the list
    and are never dialled; the sheet says who will be skipped rather than
    quietly omitting them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Hear it, if you wrote it">
    If you wrote the message rather than uploading a recording, press **Hear
    it**. It is spoken with a real contact from your own list, so a template
    that reads perfectly and breaks against your actual file is caught here
    rather than by ten thousand people.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start it">
    **Start** on the row. If it refuses, the reason is specific — no contacts
    left, no recording, a message naming a column nobody has. Fix that and start
    it again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Watch it">
    A running campaign gets a **Live** action: calls in flight, dialled,
    answered, abandoned against the cap, and how many are left.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What to expect the first time

<Warning>
  **A broadcast needs a carrier that can place calls.** If your trunks are not
  configured, contacts will finish with `no_route` and no call will be made.
  Check **Phone system → Trunks** first.
</Warning>

If a campaign starts and nothing happens, the call sheet is where the answer is:
every contact carries the outcome of its last attempt.
